Garden City Fire Dept. Meeting Notes

Reporter:  Randall Knight

All board members were present along with the Fire Chef and Tiffany Wahlberg.

The meeting started on time a 6:30pm.  There were no public members present.

The agenda was approved along with last month’s minutes.

The board reviewed and signed the 2026 Fraud Risk Assessment and the financial certification for 2025.

The board also accepted. the conflict-of-interest policy and forms.  Only 3 of the board members had completed the state required annual training.

The secretary will write up a policy that states that for any incident that requires medical assistance outside the fire district basic first aid requires notification of the board members.  The board reviewed the material readiness and housekeeping task lists and presented it to the Chief for review and comment.

The board Chair suggested that as new vehicles are obtained, the old ones could be parked on the new lot for supplementary use.  The board and Chief agreed.

A AFG grant has been submitted. The Chief is applying for BLM surplus vehicles, but that one is not very likely because the department doesn’t participate in a lot of BLM wildfires compared to other districts.  The day after the meeting the Chief was notified the grant was offered for purchasing PPE equipment.

This is how many call outs there were: 5CO calls, 3 fire alarms, 1 propane leak, 1 agency assist, 7 medicals, 26 short-term rental inspections, 4 fire pit inspections, 4 burn permits

America 250-Pennsylvania (from Wikipedia)

The history of Pennsylvania is traceable to the first modern indigenous peoples that occupied the area of present-day Pennsylvania. These included the Lenape, Susquehannocks, Iroquois, Erie, Shawnee, Arandiqiouia, and other American Indian tribes.

The area was first colonized by the Dutch in 1643. The English took control of the colony in 1667.[clarify] In 1681, Pennsylvania became an English colony when William Penn received a royal deed from King Charles II of England.

Penn, a Quaker, established his colony based on religious tolerance; it was settled by many Quakers along with Philadelphia, its largest city, which was also the first planned city. In the mid-1700s, the colony attracted many German and Scots-Irish immigrants. Most of the native peoples tribes were driven off or reduced to remnants as a result of diseases, such as smallpox.

While each of the Thirteen Colonies contributed to the American Revolution, Pennsylvania, and especially Philadelphia, was a center for the early planning and ultimate formalization of rebellion against King George III and the Kingdom of Great Britain, which was then the most powerful political and military empire in the world.

Philadelphia served as the capital of the new United States between New York City and the establishment of Washington, D.C.. During the 19th century, Pennsylvania established its northwestern, northeastern, and southwestern borders, and Pittsburgh emerged as one of the nation's largest and most prominent cities of the day. The state played an important role in the Union's victory in the American Civil War. Following the war, Pennsylvania grew into a Republican political stronghold and a major manufacturing and transportation center.

Republican Caucus Meeting

The GOP Precinct 5 Meeting was held in the Mountain View room above the library at 7:00 - 8:30PM.  The residents in the precinct were notified of the meeting by social Facebook and other social media items.  Only 12 people attended of 220 registered voters.  After electing the 2026 leaders for the precinct there was a passionate discussion about the proposed change of County Commissioners from 3 to 5.  The majority of members agreed they don’t want what happened in Summit county to happen here and would like more information about the whole process of changing.  Below is the election form showing the positions required to be filled and who volunteered  or were elected.

America 250-The History of New Jersey (from Wikipedia)

European contact began with the exploration of the Jersey Shore by Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. At the time of European contact, many tribes of the Lenape lived in the area.

In the 17th century, the New Jersey region came under the control of the Swedes and the Dutch, resulting in a struggle in which the Dutch proved victorious (1655). However, the English seized the Dutch colony of New Netherland in 1664, renaming it the Province of New Jersey. New Jersey became one of the Thirteen Colonies which broke away from Britain in the American Revolution, adopting the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Becoming a state upon the formation of the United States, New Jersey saw significant action during the American Revolutionary War. New Jersey's delegates signed the Articles of Confederation in 1779. Princeton acted as the nation's capital for four months in 1783, while Trenton served as the capital in November and December 1784. Trenton was also under consideration as the permanent U.S. capital, along with New York City and Philadelphia, before southern states, led by Thomas Jefferson, pushed for a capital to be established south of the Potomac River.[1]

In 1787, New Jersey became the third state to ratify the United States Constitution.[2]
