Get your COVID 19 vaccine now
“We’re already seeing a COVID spike," Dr Michelle Hoffman, of the Utah Department of Health, said. "We’re in the middle of a surge. I mentioned our modeling projects that we may get to 1,000 or 1,200 cases by the end of August. And so, we’re in a surge. Any of the gatherings that we’ve done historically where we’ve seen a surge are expected to increase cases."
But Governor Cox says the surges won’t mean a return to restrictions — we already have the answer.
The answer is to get vaccinated,” Cox said. “That’s the answer to all of this."
Rich County Commisssion
RANDOLPH, Utah. June 2, 2021. Sheriff Dale Stacey is considering using Cache County’s dispatch for overflow dispatch needs. With more and more people recreating in the area there are often multiple emergencies. This month there were 4 emergency calls at the same time, and it has caused problems, and does not meet the state requirements for coverage. Cache County is willing to do it for a fee. Stacey said that it would be cheaper than hiring two or more dispatchers and training them. The potential contract will be looked at by the county attorney before the commissioners approve it.
Garden City has 75% of the incidents the Sheriff responds to in the summer. There are two additional summer deputies who will be in Garden City this summer.
Mitch Poulsen, Bear Lake Regional Commission, said that they are working on the county general plan and have sent out requests for proposals for consultants to build the plan. They have $70,000 for the project; Garden City is completing their general plan which can be incorporated. Woodruff and Randolph have committed to join in. Laketown is still discussing joining. UDOT and other agencies are joining in. The last general plan was done in 1996. They will be looking at land use, affordable housing, parking and transportation routes, public lands, trails and open space, public services, and economic development among other things. The plans will be similar and consistent which will make it better for the county to use.

Eighteen Wheeler Philosophy
Pre Trip Research.
By Mel Hanson
This is my Great Newfool, William Glen Calvert. His Grandpa Hansen is my brother Glen. I think William looks a lot like his Grandpa. His Mother, Alexie, is Glen & Julie’s oldest daughter.
When I picked him up his mom told me that he’s been watching videos etc…about big rigs and all the things that driving one consists of.
So after he kissed his mom and said “see ya later” He immediately leaned over and pointed out to me what Air Valves I was to push to release the brakes so we could begin our adventure.
He checked out the gearshift as I was shifting and came to the correct conclusion when he said…”13 speed.” Kept his eye on the tachometer to make sure I shifted within the “prescribed parameters.”
I was just about to trade him places and let him drive!
I figure he knows more already than most newly so called trained drivers do!
He asked me if I was one of those drivers who had to open their door to see better when backing up? I told him I never open my door when backing…but occasionally I do roll down my window and look back to see a bit better.
“Good!, cause backing up with your door open is a good way to fall out and run yourself over!”…is what he told me.
He told me he was going to ask a lot of questions. I told him that’s how we learn and if I didn’t know the answer…I’d damn sure make one up that would be convincing!
Then in started in with the Pre Trip Research he learned about me.
-You love to tease!
-You’ve been driving big rigs most your life.
-You love oldie Goldie music
(He really likes, Queen, go figure that out?)
But the most important part of his research is: You will give me a Nickname! Love it or not!
This young man is very smart!
A few hours down the road he says to me…”This truck is pretty much your home huh? You have everything you need and it’s where you want it.”
I thought that to be very observant of the young man!
I thought he was asleep when I shut down for the night…but seconds after I turned out my bunker light…he leaned his head over the side of the top bunk and said…”So do ya have a nickname for me yet?!”
So all morning I’ve been thinking…I’ve come up with one I believe fits him to the T.
DATA!!… he’s chuck full of it!
And that’s always a good thing!
Should be a fun filled few days! Glad to have him ride along.

Rich School Board
RANDOLPH, Utah. April 27, 2021. The Bear Lake Community Health Center decided not to present its grant application because the deadline for the application had already passed. The Health Center was requesting a letter of support, but Superintendent Dale Lamborne wasn’t comfortable sending a support letter without authorization from the School Board. He did, however, send a letter indicating that the School District has very limited space to accommodate the grant activities and that he did not know whether the School Board would be interested. Superintendent Lamborn indicated that it might be a great activity for the future.
