I ordered a half-pound of crawfish to take home, and they threw in a few potatoes they had cooked along with the crawfish. As a Fearless Foodie, with any new food item, I was really excited to try these genuine expert-prepared boiled crawfish.
Crawfish are little fresh-water lobsters, and just like regular lobsters, you eat the tail and the claw meat. These crawfish tasted wonderful, perfectly spiced with their cayenne pepper, garlic and lemon juice boil recipe. The downside is that crawfish are small, and take quite a bit of effort to break open the tail to get a relatively small bit of meat. The claw meat is also good, but even harder to open and less rewarding. At first, I worked on both the tail and claw meat, but after a while, gave up on the claws and just ate the tails.
I got to MayMoes near the end of the event but there was still quite a crowd. They had a small alligator roasted on a spit, but most of the ‘gator was gone. Still, I got a small bite—hmmm, tastes like chicken. I cornered with Jason Davis, the owner, and got him to pose with Mr. Gator and me.
By now, I’ve eaten at MayMoes several times. The other day, we went there; I ordered their “Shrimp and Grits,” and my wife had a Shrimp Po’ Boy sandwich with red rice and beans. The Shrimp and Grits had just the right amount of spiciness, (but too salty); the Shrimp Po’ Boy was perfect, with plenty of seasoned shrimp in a sourdough roll. As always, the red rice and beans were great.
I’ve never tried anything at MayMoes that I didn’t
like. They’re the real deal for Cajun
food, right in Logan of all places. If
you haven’t been to MayMoes yet, I heartily recommend them. (So does Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-ins and
Dives.)
