Thirteen year old Conner Bradley Turner of Draper, Utah donated $1,700 in cash and several hundred books to the Garden City Library in honor of his Uncle.  The books, including many new children's books, were sent to Conner from all over the United States.  Cathy Rassmussen, Garden City Librarian, is very excited about Conner's generosity.

"My Uncle, Michael Bradley, passed away January 12, 2013 in an airplane accident. His favorite place was Bear Lake, where we have had our family cabins for more than 50 years,"said the seventh grader at St. John the Baptist Middle School.

"In an effort to both keep his memory alive and help all the people who live in and visit Bear Lake for years to come, together with my Grandma Barbara Bradley, I am doing this on-going project in Mike's honor called “Books for Bradley”

Heather Bradley, Conner's mother, said that Conner wants to make this a yearly contribution and asks for donations to be sent to the Garden City Library at 69 Paradise Parkway, Garden City, Utah 84028 in Michael Bradley's name.

Conner's family has had their cabin in Bear Lake since 1957 and are special friends of the Library. Conner's grandmother donated the funds for two new Kindles for the library.  Conner has spent a lot of time here too when he is not studying, playing football or being on the swim team.

OPAL Wyoming.  April 24, 2014.  Former Garden City Councilwoman Elizabeth Seiler was traveling to Bear Lake to open her home for the summer tourists when there was an explosion and fire at a natural gas pipeline in Opal, Wyoming.  She had to backtrack 30 miles out of her way even though she was very close to Garden City on Highway 30.  The Associated Press reported that there were no buildings damaged and the fire was confined, but most of the town's 95 residents were evacuated. The photo above shows the smoke from the fire.

I attended the Bear Lake Preservation Advisory Committee Meeting  where Rocky Mountain Power (PacifiCorp) releases the projected lake levels and the irrigation allocation.

For this year: Current Elevation: 5913.45', which is about 50% of the storage capacity of Bear Lake.  Not the total capacity of Bear Lake, just 50% of the top 21' of storage capacity.

Projected high for 2014:  5915.50'  (range of 5914.1 - 5917.1)  The two values in the "range" are 90% probability of 'not' happening.  In other words there is a 90% chance we will exceed 5914.1' and a 90% chance we will not get higher than 5917.1.

Current inflow into Bear Lake from Bear River is 250 cubic feet per second (CFS). Since the anticipated peak elevation (5915.5') is greater than 5914.7' (point at which conservation begins to take place), the irrigators have been granted a 100% allotment for 2014.  This amounts to 245,000 acre/feet.
