Update on Marina road construction

This week, traffic near the Bear Lake Marina will be reduced to one-way with an electronic temporary signal to manage traffic. The temporary signal will be in place for the duration of the project. Construction for this project is scheduled for Spring to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible.

A new street-level pedestrian crossing with safety flashers will be installed at the overflow access road connecting to the multi-use trail for pedestrians to cross the road safely.

Upgrades to the marina is a separate project and will be completed by the State Parks division.

The project team will be sending updates throughout the duration of the project and we have added your emails addresses to the email update list. If you do not receive an email in the next week or two, please check your 'Junk' folders. You can unsubscribe from the construction updates at any time if you do not wish to receive them.

Thank you again and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thelma C. Bishop 1937 ~ 2021

 I Lived, I Learned, I Laughed, I Loved.

On Feb.17, I left this life - having been born in Woodruff, Utah, and growing up in the freedom of open spaces and unlocked doors. I was cared for and lovingly

taught that which I needed to mature. I truly was born of goodly parents. I chose nursing as my profession and was able to have many choice experiences as I served. In my later years, I discovered the marvelous discipline of Tai-Chi Chuan, and found health, peace, and quietness in its practice.

I married my sweetheart and best friend in the Logan Temple and we are parents of three: Linda, Andrea, and Bryan. I shall miss my companion, but our reunion will be ever so sweet. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ all my life and served in many callings doing the best I could and relying on my Savior to help with my weaknesses and imperfections. I now move on to the next sphere of existence. I am survived by my husband, Kent W. Bishop, our children and two brothers David (Sue) Cox and John (Karen) Cox; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. I was preceded in death by my parents, Lynn & Zoe Cox and great grandson Cole Pelton. Until we meet again -- Adieu. Services will be virtual and only for family.

Eighteen Wheeler Philosophy

By Mel Hansen

June Marie Saxton certainly doesn’t need an endorsement from the likes of me, but my pretty little wife and I have now become admirers of her literary talent. My

wife has read to me this book in the past week and a half whilst I’ve either been sitting next to her on the sofa or over the phone, via Bluetooth, while I’m on the road.

I really love watching and listening to my pretty little wife as she reads to me. She really gets into each character, giving each one a particular voice and attitude!  It’s like she becomes the character in the book herself, her facial expressions and tones/levels of voice are priceless! I could listen to her read all day!

We fell in love with June Marie’s book instantly. And My HelloMighty!...at times I was beginning to think we were never going to get through the book.  If Gwenda wasn’t laughing, she was crying,  and I even had to fan her with my hand at times to keep her eyes dry and contact’s from falling out! Gwenda enjoyed reading it to me. I do believe she’s become fluent in the Native American Shoshone language!

Junie is a talented young lady! I’m honored to know her and her family! Her parents were very instrumental in my life.  They loved me, they had faith in me despite all of my shenanigans! I miss them. I’m positive that Bishop Weston and Pam are very proud of their daughter.

This book even has a character in it named...Melvin! He’s a bit of a twit! But I don’t know of a Melvin who isn’t!

My favorite line in this book is...”Salvation means not getting caught!” My HelloMighty! Can I ever identify with this line of reasoning for it could have been mine and my buddies’ motto when we were hellyuns growing up in the Bear Lake Valley! We never worried too much about the consequences of our actions. Just not getting caught was our #1 priority... and if caught?...you were the only one involved.  Protect your buddies at all cost!

So my little Junie!  My pretty little wife will be reading to me the rest of your books. And after each one is finished,  I’ll be sure to...”Spit across the sidewalk”... in your honor!

You’re a damn good kid! And thanks for sharing your talents with us.

Historic Paris Courthouse being torn down

In spite of citizens best efforts to save the historic courthouse which is part of Paris, Idaho's unique architectural heritage,  it was decided to tear it down to provide parking for the new courthouse.

"Just received this photo which illustrates the current status of our three-year weekend preservation effort. This building, the Bear Lake County Courthouse in Paris, Idaho, was such a special structure. While located in Idaho, the building had deep Utah roots, an amazing history, and was a true regional landmark.
Even though we lost this building, we will long treasure the many friendships we forged during this "save" campaign. We fought hard (so very hard) alongside the Friends United of Bear Lake County and
Preservation Idaho
to preserve this building and we are extremely proud of our efforts. Thanks go out to all of our constituents who wrote letters, listened in on community meetings, and otherwise helped us preservationists raise the alarm (for more information about this campaign, please visit the "Save the Historic Bear Lake County Courthouse" Facebook page)."
