Minutes approved.

Public Comments: Bryce & Bess Huefner stated their concerns about another restaurant serving alcohol. Bryce remembered living in Tooele 2 doors down from a bar and people would knock on their door and ask why the bar was closed. Bess thought parking would be an issue especially if UDOT does put curb and gutter in front of Cody’s.

Healthwest was approved for the change of license from Bear Lake Health Clinic.

Fusion 89 (in the Aloha bldg.) will be serving pork & rice bowls, seafood, and a variety of food. There will be food trucks parking on the west side of their property. They were approved.

The amended license for Cody’s to provide hard liquor during meals was approved. The license includes Sunday. Servers will be over 21.

STR at the Seasons was approved.

Encumbering lots 55 & 56 at Eagle Feather in Shundahai was approved.

A Preliminary PUD located on the lot that Firehouse is located was approved on the condition that parking be addressed.

The Sweetwater Townhomes will be back in Feb. after the attorney reviews the plat.

For reasons of health and safety a fine of $20,000 was approved for buildings which do not have a working fire suppression system.

Digging in the City ROW without a permit will be a $2,500 fine and was approved.

Several ordinances were reviewed i.e. flying in and out of Garden City, flying below 1,000 feet, and updating final plats will all come back to the council in Feb.

Shanna Wiscomb has been hired as the new librarian.

The City Council reviewed the Annual Ethics Pledge and signed it.

Reports from Council:

Ken talked about the rebranding that the City is planning to do. He also talked about getting a price to redo the boardwalk.

Martel talked about an oudoor grant for a motorized trail and improvements up Hodges Canyon. Mike Leonhardt and Bill Cox met with the USFS and are putting together a plan to be started in the spring. They will work with the trails Foundation started by Mark Smoot to implement the volunteer work.

Pat is working to make sure Raspberry Days goes well.

WATER (LAKE) TEMPERATURE:

Lake Temperature: @ 34.2 degrees as measured in the Bear Lake State Park Marina.

We are seeing ice starting to form in the marina. The de-icers are on and keeping the main channel open from the launch ramp to the mouth of the marina.

No solid ice on the lake yet. Ice has been forming, but the winds and the waves have been breaking it up and pushing it to shore.

Obituary-Iris Jane Neilson Cook

 


Iris Jane Cook, 69, died Monday, January 8, 2024 in Yuma Arizona. She was born on September 12, 1954, the daughter of C. Verneil Neilson and Zelpha Bennett Neilson. She married Eugene Cook on November 11, 1978 in Logan, Utah. 

Iris was raised and educated in Tremonton, Utah before moving to Logan. She worked as a master barber in Logan, working for several years at the USU Barbershop before moving to Garden City, Utah to set-up and operate Hometown Drive-In with her husband Gene. She was devoted and had unconditional love for her husband, three boys, their families and her pets. 

She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and pets. She was a dare devil and willing to experience life with fast cars, skydiving, scuba diving, and while enjoying life she was quick to make friends wherever she was and would give them the shirt off her back, she loved cooking for family and friends, entertaining her neighbors and spoiling her pets. 

She is survived by her husband, Gene; three sons, Ryan, Justin and Brandon Cook, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with two more arriving soon. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, Jan. 17th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, followed by a viewing on Thursday from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Garden City LDS Church prior to the funeral at 12:00 pm. Internment will take place at Garden City Cemetery with a luncheon provided by the Relief Society . www.allenmortuaries.com
