Zion's Bank Pays for A's

MONTPELIER, Idaho; October 30, 2023 — A Bear Lake Middle School student is the latest recipient of Zions Bank’s Pays for A’s scholarship. Eighth-grader Tayzen Nelson won a $500 savings account as a regional winner of the fall Pays for A’s drawing.

Camille Hargis, branch relationship banker at Zions Bank’s Bear Lake Valley branch, announced Nelson’s win during a recent branch presentation.

“We’re proud to recognize the academic achievements of Tayzen through the Pays for A’s program,” Hargis said. “Our goal is to inspire students to work hard in school and earn good grades.”

Pays for A’s rewards students who put in the effort to make their grades count. Nelson was entered into the drawing by bringing his report card to Zions Bank. He was paid $1 for each “A” and received an entry into the fall scholarship drawing. Of nearly 2,400 entries, 18 students throughout Idaho and Utah were randomly selected as winners of their respective regions.

For nearly two decades, Pays for A’s has rewarded thousands of students across Idaho and Utah for earning great grades. Students ages 12 to 18 can participate by bringing their most current term-end report card into any Zions Bank location. Students do not need a Zions Bank account to participate. They’ll receive $1 per “A” deposited into their savings account, or 50 cents per “A” if they opt for cash.

For each “A” on their report cards, students are also entered into a drawing to win one of 18 regional scholarship prizes, each worth $500, and one statewide grand prize of $1,000. In 2023, the grand prize for each state was increased to $1,500 in honor of Zions Bank’s 150-year anniversary.

Needed Volunteer EMT Training

On a positive note-John Brown

I never thought I would be reviewing a

gastrointestinal service, but that’s what I’m going to be reviewing today. I recently had an endoscopy performed at the Budge clinic in Logan, and I am surprised how lovely and pleasant and funny the staff were. I was in and out in no time with a couple of cookies in hand at the end. Colon cancer is one of the easiest cancers to detect and prevent, and if you’ve been putting off and endoscopy because you’re worried about the procedure, make an appointment with the Budge clinic. They are a terrific, personable crew. You’ll be glad you did.

Mary LuRene Webb March 16th, 1929- Oct. 23rd, 2023-Obituary

Mary LuRene passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of October 23, 2023, at the age of 94.

“LuRene”, as she was called, was born in Laketown, Utah on March 16, 1929.

Mom grew up with the love of horses. She always wanted to ride horses whether it was her own or someone else's. She had a beautiful soprano voice, which she shared by singing at many funerals, ward and community activities.

She married Delford Leslie Webb on December 29, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away on February 24, 2019. Before his passing, wherever Dad was, Mom was there also, whether it was working or playing.

They raised their family in Laketown, Utah. LuRene worked in many places in the area. She retired as a bus driver for Rich County Schools. Even after retirement, she worked for the City Parks. She was also a wonderful homemaker.

Mother loved her music. Her and dad would sing together with family and also at many ward functions. She also played the organ at home.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom served in many ward positions, but her favorite was ward chorister. Mom and Dad also worked in the Logan Temple together.

Mom also loved her flowers, she worked very hard to keep her flowers beautiful. People would stop and take pictures of them.

Mom sat on her back porch for many hours, loving the visits with her friends and family. After dad passed, mom missed him terribly, we know she is happy again!

LuRene is survived by her loving family; Brother, Ronald Eller; 4 Children, Marsha (Kent) Meyerhoffer, Chuck (Randee) Webb, Rose (Steve) Thompson, Lois (Bill) Shupe; 12 Grandchildren; 32 Great-Grandchildren (2 of which are serving LDS missions in So. Africa and the Philippines); and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; parents; daughter in law; and 1 great grandchild.

A funeral wias be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:30 am at the Laketown Ward, 115 S 100 E, Laketown. Interment at Laketown Cemetery.
