Rich County Commissioner Meeting Feb. 7th

10:00 Lyndon Friant – Jones & Demille Engineering Bike Path Update

Forestry & Fire are working with the Engineers to allow the work in the high water area and to make the parking 15’-50’ along the Lakeshore for a total of 4.8 acres. The bike path is a little over a mile. F& F, and the engineers are checking with the Army Corp for permitting process.

 10:15 Jake Woodbury – QRS Consulting North Eden Creek Culvert Replacement design.

Replace 6’ culvert with a 12’ arch culvert. Starting construction in Sept. due to traffic in the summer. Bill asked how much excavation will be necessary on the existing road. Jake said that so much depends on the construction project. Perhaps it will be 60’ to 80’. 40’ feet on each side of the creek.

10:30 William & Kathleen Swartz - Resident Property Tax Request. He only has this home in Bridgerland. He had been charged as a secondary home for 4 years. Commissioners will refund the overcharge.

 10:45 Kim Wilson – Assessor Primary Residence Discussion Personal Property Exemptions

Mike Milberry-should have been taxedas a primary residence. Refund was approved by Commissioners.

11:00 Mitch Poulsen – Administrator, Planning & Zoning Rezone Agriculture (A) to Agriculture Residential (AR) 2951 Commissioners approved the change to Residential.

Bear Lake Blvd Plat Amendment including public utility easement– Swan Creek Village combine lots 38 & 39 for Jack Betty. Approved.

 Economic  Development Awards will be announced later.

11:30 Tyler Seaman – Building Inspector 2023 Building Inspection Report

Tyler reported 108 new permits in the county and 878 Inspections (not including Garden City). Inspections require going to the building site anywhere from 6-10 times during the building process. The revenue from building permits for 2023 was $257.987. The State Law requires a plan review, but Rich County does not charge this fee yet. Rich County does not charge a fee for an agricultural building. Prospective builders should go to the Rich County Website and establish an address before the plan review. It does take 3-4 hours for a plan review, and then the engineers take a look at the project.

Brady Long named new Executive Director of Bear Lake Watch by MADDY LONG mlong@journalnet.com

Bear Lake Watch, an organization founded in 1994 that advocates for the protection and preservation of Bear Lake, announced that it has a new Executive Director: Brady Long.

 "He is someone who lives at the lake, is involved with the local community, has experience working with legislators and government agencies and has demonstrated effective leadership through a successful career as a business owner and chief executive," Jody Burnett said in the news release.

Long and his family have lived in the Bear Lake area for the last 10 years. Before that, they spent summers there as he built his company, Equity Real Estate LLC.

After moving to Bear Lake, Long and his family became involved with many different organizations in the community, including the Bear Lake Education Foundation and Bear Lake Memorial Hospital.

Long also has experience working with Bear Lake Watch's former executive directors, David and Claudia Cottle.

Long said in the news release that the Bear Lake community has been a good place for him and his family to live and he looks forward to serving as Bear Lake Watch's executive director.

"(Bear Lake) has been the ideal location to raise our family, and our children have benefited greatly from the teachers and the tremendous people in the community," he said in the news release. "There is no place on Earth like Bear Lake."

Garden City Town meeting notes Feb. 7th, 2024

 

The council met and approved the minutes, then the floor was opened to public comments. No Comments.

The agenda included 2 business licenses: First Light Builders LLC James Arthur; and Bear Lake Real Estate PllC (just a name addition) both were approved.

1 short term rental was approved upon finishing the asphalt by July 31st.

Elks Ridge Phase 2 need and extension for recording their plat. It was approved.

Lot line adjustment for Chuck Stocking was approved.

Tyson Lund – The Sweetwater Townhomes were approved.

Discussion on the ordinances which needed to be updated.

The Rebranding Committee will consist of Jayne Davis, Lindsey McLaughlin, LauriAnn WakeField, and Rebecca Moldenhauer. The Beautification Committee will also meet with them to give suggestions.

JUB told the council about the Technical Planning Grant that his group are working on to help the City in discussing roads and density.

Martel Menlove talked about a group of students from USU who have a Senior Project plan to help the city. Senator Wilson was able to procure $210,000 for this grant.

Jackie Webb and Pat Argyle talked about Raspberry Days and where they are in the planning.

Dwan Young, the 92 year old woman water skiier reported by KSL News




Bear Lake County, Id— A 92-year-old woman from Utah is making waves. Dwan Young is the world's oldest female water skier. Young's granddaughter secretly contacted the Guinness World Record. Then, at Christmas, her family made the big reveal. Dwan has been skiing at Bear Lake for over 50 years. She makes her home in Salt Lake, but has a summer cabin at the lake.
