In 2005, she started doing childcare with her daughter, Jeannie. She always had a big heart and found a fit in childcare; the kids loved her. After working hard her entire life, she retired in 2020

Pickleville Philosophy

By Jim Stone

Hi you guys.  I’m being held against my wishes buy two mean vicious dogs.  Spruce and Oak have turned into grizzly bears at even the thought of leaving Alaska.   They’re having no part of it.  It’s been an adventure this week. There are so many challenges every day.

One of the biggest challenges has been showering, but I found a little boat dock that has a pay shower. It's about four dollars for seven minutes. One thing I learned really fast is to get soaped up and rinsed off before your time runs out. If you don’t have any more quarters you're in trouble.

Another challenge has been doing laundry. There’s a laundromat about 100 miles from where our camp is. So I had to come up with an invention to do laundry.   I call it the slish slosh. It’s a 20 gallon cooler that I pour 5 gallons of only the freshest spring water in, and then add some Downy Fresh laundry soap and a splash of bleach than add my underwear and socks and shut the lid.  The unique thing about this Alaskan bush washing machine called the slish slosh is it takes no power to run and man does it get your clothes clean.  It works best on long bumpy roads on the way fishing.  If there are any unwanted skid marks on your undies or an extra strong order on your socks all ya got to do is hit the gas in your truck while traveling down most any bumpy road.  It’s cool as you drive you can hear this new invention just slish sloshing away.  It slishes and sloshes all the dirt and stains rite away.  After a good slish sloshing in this amazing new style of washing machine you simply pull off to a fresh water spring,  rinse you're undies and socks off, then hang them in your truck on the rear view mirror, turn on the defroster and in no time at all,   downy fresh undies and socks.  It really works if any one decides to get a patent on this fabulous invention please cut us dogs in on some of the profits so we can stay up here and go on some more fun adventures.

We all sure hope you guys are all doing good. Us dogs are sending all of our best wishes, prayers and the biggest smiles we can send.

Bear River Health Vaccine Update

The Utah Department of Health has produced a webpage to keep you up to date on the status of COVID-19 vaccine approvals, provide an anticipated timeline for vaccine distribution, and to answer many of your questions. Please click HERE to visit that page.

The Utah Department of Health has also added a vaccine tracker to their dashboard. This will allow you to see vaccination progress in the state. Please click HERE to visit that page.

We are currently offering COVID-19 vaccinations to healthcare providers and first responders.

As announced by the governor, K-12 school staff will be eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccination starting the week of January 11. We are working closely with our local school districts, charter, and private schools to organize this effort. Clinic scheduling links will be provided to teachers and staff by their districts or school administration.

We will begin our vaccination efforts for individuals 70 years of age and older the week of January 18, or sooner if vaccine becomes available. Limited doses of vaccine will be available and individuals must pre-register for our clinics. We anticipate using all of our doses and will not be able to accommodate individuals that haven’t pre-registered at this time. Please visit our website often for updates and for scheduling links for our upcoming clinics.

Win two nights at Bear Lake

By Randall Knight

Well here we are in 2021!  How fast 2020 has gone bye even though it seemed extremely slow most of the time.  Last month I shared the Christmas Jar story and need to start our own jar by either a monthly donation or putting change some in a jar.  I also mentioned the sad news about the Matt and Laura Cluff family and needing help from the community.  Well, there circumstance even though improving isn’t over.  Matt is still in the hospital and Laura is hoping and planning on when he can come home and need to use a wheelchair.  As we all know the bills keep coming no matter what our lives situation is.  If I don’t get out of bed my monthly bills are $1500 for the basic stuff: electricity, gas, phones, TV, all the insurance coverage, taxes, and oh ya gotta have the internet.  Luckily no house or car payments.  I assume most of you got a $600 COVID stimulus check last week and might have a little left over that you might want to donate to the Cluff’s.

There is the normal donation ways to the city office, library, envelope mailed through the drop box inside the post office, fire department and clergy.  Well, the Gifford’s are holding a raffle.  You might have seen it on social media sites to win 2 nights stay in their new rental property.  They advertise it as a Rustic Retreat.  It is far from rustic, new construction home in Snow Meadows that sleeps 40!  My COVID bubble consists of 10 people and we only meet with 2 of them at time.  I digress.

For $5 you can have a chance to win a two night stay! Naturally you can share it with friends and family.  For $50 you would get 10 chances to stay in their beautiful lodge that would normally cost a whole lot more than that.  I guess $500 - $1500 dollars.  The money collected will be donated to the Cluff’s.

Here is what they posted on social media for specific information.  Remember January 20 is just a few days before Winterfest!!  The Bear Lake Monster polar plunge, chili cook off, and other activities on the 22-24th.  What a change to have your family and friends come up for the weekend and enjoy the Winterfest or the many winter sports available.

Help a family in need!!! We will donate a two night stay in Bear Lake, Utah at the Bear Lake Rustic Retreat. (Stay will need to be off season and excludes holidays). Your name will be put into a drawing for each $5 you donate.  Multiple donations of $5 each are allowed. The name will be drawn on January 20th, 2021. Every dollar will go to the family. The father recently suffered a massive stroke and they need your help!! Please Venmo @BearLakeRusticRetreat.
Please Like and share this post.  #Clufftuff   to find out more about the Rustic Retreat  https://www.vrbo.com/1559489 A great tribute/information about the family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TxD7utumS8&fbclid=IwAR0qyAfw12qZ-lnOte8jHO0r77FGvvdNt-6JKxQKd9zmHACSHsBUTnF9jJE
