Dom Casillas - Grand Championship in the Junior Divison of the Utah Fancy Poultry Showdown and Darci BradshawGrand Reserve

What a great day we had today at the Utah Fancy Poultry Show down in Ogden, which is part of the American Poultry Association.

Just what is this you ask? It’s a professional organization dedicated to showing breeds of chickens that have been bred for showing. They have certain standards that have to be met in order to even show. They have these shows all over the country and even in Canada. They have a set of judges that have been trained in judging chickens and are highly respected come in to judge the chickens. One of the judges there today was from Canada. People from all over come to participate in the shows. We were introduced to breeders from Canada, Montana, someone was there from Florida. It’s a pretty big deal for people who love chickens.

Dom and Darci were able to participate in the Jr Showmanship division. They were verbally tested on the breeds of their bird and asked to show their bird in various different degrees.

Rich County Cock-A-Doodle-4-H poultry club shined. Dom came home with a grand championship in the junior division and Darci tied for grand reserve. There were approximately 30 total participants ages 5-14 and approximately 10 in their age group.

I am so proud of them and the time they have spent studying and working with their birds. Hours have been spent handling studying washing and grooming their birds.

Rich High School Receives Honors for Academic and Athletic Excellence

Rich High School is proud to announce that it has received honors for both academic and athletic excellence. The volleyball team and the football team have the highest GPA in 1A and have been awarded with plaques from UHSAA as Academic State Champions.  This is something that we are very proud of at Rich High School and we appreciate the teachers, students, and community placing such a high importance on our academic goals.

The volleyball team has had a stellar season and are entering the state tournament as a 3 seed. The team finished 1st place in region 22 with a record of 10-0 and an overall record of 13-13.  The state tournament will be held at Utah Valley University on October 27th and 28th.

The regional meet for cross country was held in Manila, Utah on October 17, 2023.  The boys and girls both worked very hard and as a school we are so proud of their effort.  The girls were crowned region champions and Rich High School had 4 girls place in the top ten.  Paige Smith placed 1st, Lyda Taylor placed 2nd, Leah Peterson placed 3rd, and Rylee Moldenhauer placed 8th.  Hudson Parry finished in 8th place in the boy’s race.  Both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state meet held next Tuesday October 24, 2023 held the Regional Sports Complex in Salt Lake City.

Our Rebel football team will have it’s final regular season game on the road against Pinedale High School on Friday October 20.  Our football team currently has a record of 5-4 and will enter the UHSAA 8 player state tournament as the 1 seed.  The first playoff game will be held at Zion’s Bank Stadium in Salt Lake City at 10 AM with the state championship the following week at Southern Utah University.

We have appreciated the great support from our Rich High School Cheerleaders.  They are growing and improving weekly.  They work hard and care about leading our school in positive ways.  Without our cheerleaders, our school spirit would be minimal.  They are at every home game come rain or shine and they even trained the freshmen boys for a homecoming powderpuff dance.  They will also travel with the teams for state events.  Again, we appreciate the school spirit that our cheerleaders bring to our school and games.

Rich High School is proud of its students for their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field. The school is committed to providing its students with a rigorous academic program and a variety of athletic opportunities. Rich High School is a place where students can learn and grow to their full potential and we are proud to be Rebels.

And the walls came tumbling down! Goodbye to a building past its prime!

It had been a hardware store, a bank, a restaurant, a laundry service and a place to stay. Thanks Joe for getting the job done!

Rich County Emergency Management-Bryce Nielson

Rich County Emergency Management

Older Adult Preparedness

Being prepared for emergency situations is something we all need to be prepared

for. In the last 20 years as the Rich County Emergency Manager, I have seen

countless publications on how to Be Ready for an emergency. Most of them have

focused on the general population, families, businesses, schools, special needs

individuals and pets.

I know that in Rich County there are many older folks (I am one of them) that

need to approach preparedness somewhat differently. I was recently made

aware of a new FEMA publication that recognizes that older adults often face

unique hurdles during disasters. The Disaster Preparedness Guide for Older

Adults is a resource tailored to fit the community’s specific needs. Click on the

link for all the information.

Designed with usability in mind, the guide features user-friendly formats such as

checklists, tools, and resources. It also aligns with this year’s FEMA Ready

Campaign theme, “Take Control in 1, 2, 3,” highlighting the importance for older

adults to prepare by taking three essential steps—assessing needs, creating a plan

and engaging support networks.

Caregivers, family members and those invested in the well-being of older adults

will find this guide adaptable and indispensable in their efforts to ensure the

safety and security of our older adult community members.

Please visit Ready.gov/Older-Adults to access the guide and learn more about

FEMA’s efforts to support older adults during National Preparedness Month and

beyond.
