What a great day we had today at the Utah Fancy Poultry Show
down in Ogden, which is part of the American Poultry Association.
Just what is this you ask? It’s a professional organization
dedicated to showing breeds of chickens that have been bred for showing. They
have certain standards that have to be met in order to even show. They have
these shows all over the country and even in Canada. They have a set of judges
that have been trained in judging chickens and are highly respected come in to
judge the chickens. One of the judges there today was from Canada. People from
all over come to participate in the shows. We were introduced to breeders from
Canada, Montana, someone was there from Florida. It’s a pretty big deal for
people who love chickens.
Dom and Darci were able to participate in the Jr Showmanship
division. They were verbally tested on the breeds of their bird and asked to
show their bird in various different degrees.
Rich County Cock-A-Doodle-4-H poultry club shined. Dom came home
with a grand championship in the junior division and Darci tied for grand
reserve. There were approximately 30 total participants ages 5-14 and
approximately 10 in their age group.
I am so proud of them and the time they have spent studying and
working with their birds. Hours have been spent handling studying washing and
grooming their birds.
