Daffodils by Bess Huefner

I read an interesting article by Chris Huston called, “The inevitability of daffodils” in the Magic Valley Times-News printed May 14th, 2023. His article started me thinking about one of my favorite flowers - the daffodil. No matter how tough the winter has been when a daffodil forces its way to the surface (even during the latest snowfall) you can believe spring is on its way. The bright yellow flowers wave to us in our cocooned environment and seem to say, “I’m here come out and play in the dirt”.

Catastrophic events happen in our lives, our communities, and our world but the daffodils still come up as a testament to us that life will go on, perhaps not in the way that we thought, but onward.

Rich High

Rich High School Golf team @ state championships @ Richfield. Boys finish 5th and girls finish 6th - Go Rebels

As part of the Utah State Track meet this weekend held at Brigham Young University - Glenn Smith and the late Justin Groll were recognized as the outstanding coaches for 1A high schools.  Shauna and her children Ashley and Karter were able to accept the award on behalf of Justin.  It was great to see the support of the fans from Rich County lining the fence to show the Smith and Groll families our support for two amazing men who have shaped and influenced in positive ways the youth of our county inside and outside of the classroom as coaches.  Proud to be a Rich High Rebel!

BEAR LAKE and BEAR LAKE STATE PARK Conditions, 5/22/2023:

BEAR LAKE and BEAR LAKE STATE PARK Conditions, 5/22/2023:

**********
WATER (LAKE) TEMPERATURE:
Lake Temperature: @ 54.4 degrees as measured in the Bear Lake State Park Marina.
This is a bit of an anomaly as the lake has been relatively calm this past week and the sun has warmed up the surface of the lake. We would expect the water temperature to be @ 45 - 46 degrees at this time. This will likely change with the next major wind storm which would mix the colder lower water with the warmer water at the surface.
**********
LAKE ELEVATION:
Current Lake Elevation: @ 5914.00'.
2023 predicted high elevation: @ 5918.8'.
Full elevation: 5923.65'.
The lake has risen approximately 25 inches over the past three weeks.
2023 high elevation: 5913.00'.
2022/23 low elevation: 5909.70'.
2022 high elevation: 5913.65'.
2021/22 low elevation: 5912.10'.
2021 high elevation: 5916.85'.
