Ambulance For Sale, New Business And Upgrades To County Building

RANDOLPH, Utah, July 3, 2013.  Rich County Commission.  A short meeting this month involved tax issues, an ambulance for sale and new business license requests.

Ben Barrus, Laketown Lodge (Old Rock Store), asked the Commissioners to approve a redesignation of his property as residential for property tax purposes.  During the summer months, people rent this property, but during the winter months Mr. Barrus’ family lives there.  Kim Wilson, the Rich County Assessor, will obtain more information before the County Commission makes a decision on the status of the property as some short term rentals are considered private residences and Mr. Barrus may be the only one considered commercial.

The Rich County ambulance, a 2002 two wheel drive diesel, is for sale.  The asking price is $5,000 or best offer.  Anyone who is interested should contact Kim Wilson, Rich County Assessor, at the Rich County Office.

Russell Thomson, Rich County Janitor, reported that the restrooms were plumbed incorrectly.  The plumbing has been corrected so hot water is now in the restrooms.   No mold was detected in the building, but two coats of paint were required to cover the old paint.   Mr. Thomson was frustrated that there has been no communication with the Commissioners as to his assignments.  Commissioner Bill Cox asked Mr.  Thomson to prepare a list of the daily, weekly, and monthly projects for which he is responsible as a salaried employee.    The Commissioners can then sit down with Mr. Thomson to draw up a clear job description which will be a topic for the August Rich County Commission meeting.

Tom Wahlberg, Garden City,  asked the County Commissioners to approve a business license for Tiffany Wahlberg, who is starting a new trucking business, Republic Transportation, LLC.  The license was approved.

Mosquito Massacre

Kathie B. Anderson, Reporter
Rich Civic Times

RANDOLPH, Utah.  July 3, 2013. Rich County Commission.  Commissioner Bill Cox announced that  Mosquitoes have been sprayed this year.  No West Nile has been detected this year, possibly because of our dry weather which kills the species of mosquitos carrying the West Nile virus,  or because they have been sprayed earlier this year.  Whatever the reason, we are not complaining!

Young Man Dies On Bear Lake Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

From Miami Herald:

GARDEN CITY, Utah.  A young man has died of carbon monoxide poisoning after he inhaled too many toxic fumes during a boat trip on a Utah lake. Lucas Allyn, 22, was said to be lying near the exhaust pipe at the back of a boat as he helped his friends on and off the vessel while they went swimming and water skiing. Allyn's friends called 911 when they thought he had heatstroke on Saturday around 7.15pm.

Tragic: Lucas Allyn, 22, died of carbon monoxide poisoning on Saturday after he inhaled too many fumes during an boat ride on Bear Lake in Utah Deseret News reports that emergency responders met the boat at the dock at Bear Lake and some of his friends had already started trying to perform CPR on Allyn. Emergency responders continued to try to revive Allyn for over an hour before announcing the time of death.

The Utah State Medical Examiner later ruled that his cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. The ruling comes as a surprise given the circumstances around Allyn's death, since the boat was running on an outdoor lake, meaning that the gas would have had plently of space to diseminate. Scene: Allyn was on the boat with friends at Bear Lake (pictured) on Saturday when they called 911 because they thought he had heat stroke 'Wildcard': His friends said Allyn (left, and at the left in right picture) dropped out of school but was hoping to reapply to college Carbon monoxide poisoning generally occurs in instances where a person is stuck inside a contained space where the substance is leaking, forcing them to inhale the toxic chemical instead of oxygen. Fun-loving: Allyn was said to be a loyal and trusting friend In this instance, the exhaust pipe lead came from the exterior motor of an older boat- as opposed to being contained in an interior cabin- and the victim was laying near the end of the pipe. One friend wrote a blog post in memory of his friend, who he called 'a wildcard' that 'became essentially, the brother I never had'. 'Lucas was that friend I could trust with anything, including my life. He was even going to be my best man (if I ever were to get married),' Raymond Howze wrote in the post. 'My family took him in almost a year ago when he moved out of his apartment and since then, our bond became even stronger.'Allyn had attended one year of college before dropping out, but at the time of his death, Mr. Howze was in the process of helping him reapply to school. 'In the end, he wanted to do whatever it took to get to the top,' Mr Howze wrote. 'I’ll always remember this quote from him: “You’re never penalized for over-dressing … just like you’re never penalized for being over-educated.” Lucas liked to live a life of excess, in all senses of the word. He even had dress shirts with his full name, Lucas Marcellus Allyn, embroidered on the collar.' - See more at: http://www.miaminewsday.com/national/12355-man-dies-of-carbon-monoxide-poisoning-while-boating-on-a-lake-because-he-was-sitting-too-close-to-the-exhaust-pipe.html#sthash.op0xMykk.dpuf"

Cisco Sonar

By Bryce Nielson,
Cisco's Landing

You know it is always interesting to me how people become set in their ways.  There is no better example of this than people not coming to Bear Lake In June because the water is cold and the weather is bad.  You will never see a family reunion scheduled in June.  Most of the people here are staying at WorldMart because it is the only time they can get reservations.  Granted, sometimes the weather is questionable but many times it is glorious.  June is a funny month but it seems that most visitors remember the "bad times" and not the good times.  The Bear Lake Rendezvous Chamber of Commerce tries to increase visitation during the "shoulder" seasons but June is the key.  Apparently every bike and running group knows how great it is here.  Unfortunately they show up at 5:00am, clog up the roads and then leave,  That is cool but we need more.  The water temperature is now over 60F, the days are as long as they are going to get all year long, everything is green, the butterflies are out and there are few people here.  Come on folks, visit Bear Lake now, don't wait for the summer rush.
