The Garden City Fire District, in collaboration with Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands, is holding an open house to present and receive feedback on the Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan (CWPP). The Garden City CWPP is being prepared to identify risk factors in the district and develop mitigation actions to reduce wildland fire risk in the Garden City Fire District and adjacent lands.
Through working with local HOAs and land management organizations, the CWPP details goals and actions that can reduce risk through prevention, preparedness, and mitigation activities throughout communities located within the fire district. The public is encouraged to attend the upcoming meeting to voice any concerns they have involving wildfire risk in the community and to provide feedback and ideas on how to mitigate risk. Following the Open House the Garden City Fire District Wildfire Planning Group will finalize the plan and adopt it. The Open House will be held on September 21, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm in the Lakeview building (Building C of the Garden City offices), in Garden City.

Counting Cars at Garden City LDS Church on Holiday Weekends
I read the fire district report and I can tell you that Don and I counted the cars on the 4th of July when there were supposedly a total of 5,000 folks at church during the three meetings.

Carol Gene Whitney Hopkin 1942 - 2016
Carol Gene Hopkin, 74, of Woodruff Utah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 26, 2016 after complications from a fall.
Carol was born to Elaine Cox and Calvin Whitney on May 12, 1942 in Ogden Utah, the oldest of five children.
She married V. Stuart Hopkin on August 15, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Carol was always active in church and she served in many positions in her ward and stake. She and Stuart served a mission in Charlotte, North Carolina and served in the Ogden Utah Temple. She loved the feelings she had while attending the temple.
The best term we can think of to describe Mom is 'love' - she loved her friends and the people she associated with, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she especially loved Stu. Everything she did she did out of love.
Carol had a special place in her heart for children. She always loved visiting her grandchildren and when they started having children of their own, she was happy to have the next generation of little children around her. She loved music and loved singing in the church choir.
Carol is survived by her husband Stuart, by her children, Vern Hopkin, JoJean (Sim) Weston, Mary (Mark) Ackerman, David (Kim) Hopkin, Michael (Debbie) Hopkin, Melissa (Thad) Willis, Chris (Michelle) Hopkin, Jennifer (Chad) Bullen, Sara (James) Graf, and Andy (Lori) Hopkin, also 46 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her grandson Jimmy Hopkin.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Woodruff LDS Ward chapel at 1 Interment followed at the Woodruff Cemetery.
Thank you to countless friends who made her life so rich and full. Online condolences may be given at crandallfhevanston.com
