Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP)

Dr. Susan R. Madsen and the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) are excited to host a gathering focused on identifying ways to help girls and women in Rich County thrive. Utah is full of engaged, passionate individuals who frequently ask the question, "What can I personally and/or professionally do to strengthen the impact of Utah girls and women?" To provide specific answers to that question, the UWLP team hosts "think tank" gatherings to collect best practices for various stakeholders interested in supporting and empowering Utah girls and women. This is an opportunity for community leaders and others (e.g., government, politics, business, schools, nonprofits, healthcare) within Rich County to brainstorm ways to help girls and women better thrive.

While living in Utah holds many positives, there are vast differences in the way that some experience Utah’s economic success, leadership opportunities, and even safety and belonging. Come brainstorm how you and your community can shift that in Rich County.

      • Date: Friday, May 31, 2024

      • Time: 12 pm - 2 pm

      • Place: Garden City Offices

      • Note: A light lunch will be provided.

We have completed think tank gatherings in 20 other counties, creating a two-page report that can be distributed throughout the community. To see how your community may use the output to inform and further your work, here is a link to various “What Can I Do?” reports from prior gatherings.

In addition, Dr. Madsen will introduce A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) as we prepare to form a Rich County Coalition. If you are inspired to stay and learn more, plan to meet from 1:15-1:45 with us.

Please reply to this invitation and let me know whether or not you can attend. And, if you know of someone else who would like to be included, please share their name and email address with me so I can track RSVPs.

Garden City Fire District

Garden City Fire District Meeting May 20, 2024

Submitted by Randall Knight

The meeting started on time at 6:30pm with all board members present.  There were no public members present.

Last month’s minutes were approved and the Treasurer reported an audit has not been done yet but hopefully will be done next month.

The board agreed to abide by an ethical behavior statement that will be added to the policy manual.  The board agreed to not apply for any TRT grant funds this year.

The lot for the satellite station has been rezoned and split from the acreage so hopefully the purchase will be completed in the near future.

The Chief reported the boat will be in the lake by Memorial Day weekend.  The fire engine needs some minor repairs to the air brakes allowing it to be useable.  Some additional training will be done with Bear Lake county.

.

Randall mentioned he had heard reports of PFAS contaminating PPE and causing health problems for firefighters. The Chief is going to look into the possible issue for their PPE and report back.

The Calls for the last 30 days were 2 propane leaks, 3 fire alarms, 1 truck fire, 11 medicals, 7 Short-Term rental inspections, 3 business inspections, 9 burn permits, 1 fire pit permit.
