2022 Raspberry Days

Thanks to all who made Raspberry Days a super success. The incredible job Pat Argyle does year after year in organizing the volunteers and staff is phenomenal, Her Craft Fair helper, Jessica Whittaker, from Georgetown was superb. The music was wonderful, the booths were interesting and nicely presented. Bingo was the biggest hit during the downpour. The Chicken Poop game was fun for everyone who tried to win the 3 kayaks. Rodeos in Laketown, pie eating contests, and Of course, there was the boat parade, and the fireworks! Thanks for the countless hours of planning for a great event!

Good Stuff by John Brown

Good Stuff! Knight Owl by Christopher Denise

A few weeks ago my grandson had his third birthday, and he received a surprisingly wonderful picture book called Knight Owl by Christopher Denise.

Denise is a professional illustrator. Here he uses those skills to illustrate a story of his own making. And the result is absolutely delightful.

It’s about a little guy named Owl. Since the day he hatches, Owl dreams of becoming a real knight. And then one day the knights start to disappear, and the king and queen need all the help they can get, and so Owl gets his chance.

I loved the illustrations. Every single page. And I loved the story, especially the surprising and funny way Owl defeats the enemy.

If you like children’s picture books, or if there’s a little kiddo in your life that you think might like a grand adventure, I think you will love this book. Get it. And then sit down with them, read it together, and enjoy!

Garden City Fire District

Garden City Fire District Board Meeting Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

Leonard O'Reilly, Reporter

Your reporter was absent so Chairman Randall Knight provided the following:

All the board members were present except one.  The board discussed the Pioneer Day picnic and the plans for Raspberry Days.  There was fewer people at the picnic than planned because the main activities were moved to Ideal Beach.

The fire station will be used for a rest and relaxation place for the first responders during Raspberry Days.

Because of the additional calls, Chief Wahlberg hasn’t been able to keep up with the grounds  and general housekeeping.  The board voted to hire somebody to do the housekeeping on a weekly or monthly basis and a landscape company to clean up the outside area.

They also voted to purchase a shed in which to store the snowmobiles and the already approved purchase for a future UTV.

The responses for the month were:

3 - fires

3 - propane leak calls

4 - CO alarms

4 - fire alarms

1 - down power line

1 - agency assist

15- short-term rental inspections

 3 - business inspections

6 -  fire pit inspections

3 -  illegal burns

14-  fireworks violations
