State Parks On Gun Range

Bob Stevens, Reporter
Rich Civic Times

RANDOLPH, Utah.  April 1, 2015.  David Harris, Regional Manager of Utah State Parks, reported to the Rich County commissioners  that the State Parks are supportive of having a gun range in this area.  As far as selecting a location, however, they feel that should be a County decision.  If the current location is acceptable to the County it would be acceptable to the State Parks.  If the County decides to consider other locations, State Parks would be willing to participate in the evaluation of those sites.  In either case, however, the State Parks feel that a public hearing of the matter should be held so that people who would be impacted would have a voice in the decision.

The Commissioners said that there is an organization planning to look at tourist issues from the Idaho border through the Bear Lake area.  That study would likely touch on such issues as parking and turning lanes along areas where visitors want to get to the lake.  That study might be able to also consider the impact of gun range ingress/egress on the traffic in the area of the facility.  A target date for a public hearing regarding the gun range would be sometime after Memorial Day.  Harris also indicated that State Parks is excited about the benefits of a Marina Expansion if that happens
