RANDOLPH, Utah. April 1, 2015. A.J. Franks and Robert Hunter, United Way, asked
the county commissioners if they would be interested in United Way becoming
involved in the Rich County area. Any
funds and/or volunteer efforts they raise would be used in the community where
they are raised. He stated that their
overhead is 7%. The rest goes into
services in the community.
The Commissioners commented that areas that
might welcome help from United Way would be the school district or the food
pantry. Franks and his group commented
that United Way is often able to connect with industries in areas where they
are involved to set up joint donation/volunteer programs. The Commissioners reminded Franks that Rich County has very little in the
way of industry of the kinds that might be found in a larger, non-ranch and/or
non-tourist areas.
The Commissioners
recommended that Franks and his associates might want to visit with the Garden
City town Council and other areas in the Bear Lake Valley to assess the
possibilities. There are certainly projects
that would be of interest, and it would be good for United Way to at least
explore the possibility, judge for themselves, and then come back and talk to
the County Commissioners.
