In spite of citizens best efforts to save the historic courthouse which is part of Paris, Idaho's unique architectural heritage, it was decided to tear it down to provide parking for the new courthouse.
"Just received this photo which illustrates the current status of our three-year weekend preservation effort. This building, the Bear Lake County Courthouse in Paris, Idaho, was such a special structure. While located in Idaho, the building had deep Utah roots, an amazing history, and was a true regional landmark.
Even though we lost this building, we will long treasure the many friendships we forged during this "save" campaign. We fought hard (so very hard) alongside the Friends United of Bear Lake County and
Preservation Idaho
to preserve this building and we are extremely proud of our efforts. Thanks go out to all of our constituents who wrote letters, listened in on community meetings, and otherwise helped us preservationists raise the alarm (for more information about this campaign, please visit the "Save the Historic Bear Lake County Courthouse" Facebook page)."

Wow, wasn't expecting that. Things that remain become all the more rare and valuable.
