September 5, 2018. Tyler Stuart, Cook
Sanders Associate, County Engineers, updated Commissioners on the Bike Trail. He asked if the County would be willing to
donate the sub-grade toward the project then they can bid out road base and
asphalt. If they did, it will be $460,000
to take the bike trail from Ideal Beach Resort to Epic Recreation. This must be completed this year if the County
wants to get the $200,000 in State Lands money.
The sub-grade can be the match and with
that money they will be able to get to the lake side which will free up the State
Lands money. Cox said they could haul the gravel if the
gravel was paid for.
If construction doesn't disturb more than ½ acre of land with the
trail, they don’t have to comply to the more rigorous standards of Army Corps of
Engineers. They need two land owners
to agree to the bike path turning the corner past Epic Recreation because there
is some complicated engineering needed for that next 350 feet.
They would like to start cutting the trail in mid-October
and then put asphalt and base next spring. They will use 2400 yards of road base to Epic
and 8,000 yards if they go around the bend.
