RANDOLPH, Utah.
September 5, 2019. There has been
a lot more garbage generated in Rich County since the growth of short term
rentals according to both the County Treasurer and the Sanitation Supervisor.
Lou Jean Argyle, Treasurer, and Lynn Weston, Sanitation Supervisor, asked
Commissioners to clarify the fees for short term rentals. Currently, rentals with an occupancy of less than
eight people pay the same rate as a private home. That rate is $70 twice a year. It will cost $105 twice a year for two cans
and then if they need more cans it will cost more. In July there is an extra charge of $9 per
person. Currently if the rentals do not
want the cans year round, the county will pick them up at the end of the summer
for no charge.
Weston said that some people, in an effort avoid paying for extra cans, are
dumping their cans into dumpsters around Garden City which costs the dumpster
owners more as they pay for each dump.
Weston said that they are now running seven days a week and make at
least two runs a day in the summer.
