Rich County School Board

 

Oct 25, 2021 Rich County Board Meeting Summary:

·        Football Realignment: WY will not allow us to play in postseason for at least 2 years and even then we would need to appeal to be allowed (most likely slim chance). Principal Larsen feels we have a decent chance to get UHSAA to let us go independent and still play for postseason. This would allow us to join the WY league for a few years but still play for postseason in UT. We would have to go in as the lowest seed in UT postseason if they even allowed us. Board voted to go ahead with telling WY we will be joining them but make it conditional on UHSAA allowing us to play postseason in UT. We will know more come Nov board meeting

·        Vaping Litigation: Board voted to join the nationwide vaping litigation more as a statement against vaping but not expecting much money to come out of that case since we are such a small school and any financial winnings from the case will be paid out based off student size in the schools that have joined. If any money does come from it, we will decide how to best spend that in combating vaping (education, counseling, etc.)

·        Policy 511: School board approved 1st reading of new policy which basically gives the teachers and administration more options on disciplining for cell phone use instead of jumping straight to the teacher/administration having to take the phone

·        Winter Sports: Board approved the schedule for RMS and RHS winter sports. I asked the administration to bring these schedules to the board when they are initially created rather than right before the season.

·        Bus Quote: Board voted to purchase a new bus. Also, it was mentioned that the old bus that this new bus will replace was sold for a few thousand dollars on a surplus site. The fleet will get by being a bus short until the new bus comes (mid-summer of 2022).

·        URS Audit: Want to give a shoutout to Jennie Sorensen Johnson and others that help her. This audit was quite the pain in their side but because of her hard work and others around her the school district passed with only a couple items which were handled right there in the audit.

·        Staffing: The board went into closed session to discuss staffing

·        Nov Board meeting: Will be held Nov 22nd at 12pm at District Offices.
