Bear River Health Report

RANDOLPH, Utah,  March 2, 2016. Jill Parker, public relations director, Bear River Health Department, gave the Annual Report.  She said that partnerships over time have been developed and are key to keeping public health projects working.  Some services that have been provided include:  124 external flu and immunization clinics, 384 women provided with substance abuse treatment,  1009 citizens trained in suicide prevention, 949 restaurants have been inspected and 68 people have been provided with immigration services. They have partnered with grocery stores to showcase healthy foods.  Macy’s has a healthy check-out line which features healthy snacks.  

Radon Kits have been provided for $8 and are available in Randolph office, to test put the kit in the lowest level of home and cover it, then send it for laboratory tests.  There can be retroactive fixes but it is best to do it before new construction.  It is second only to tobacco for lung cancer .  Cox would like to have two radon workshops,  one in Garden City and one in Randolph.

They have provided breast feeding support and education for new mothers.   Nurse family partnership is a new grant to have nurses go into the home to help train low income pregnant mothers until the child is two years old.   They are also developing relationships with the schools for teen mothers.  There are 156 programs offered through the Bear River Health department.
