LeRoy Hirschi 1912 - 2016

October 25, 1912 - March 5, 2016 (103 years old)

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, LeRoy Hirschi, completed his earthly mission Saturday, March 5, 2016, when he died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Logan, Utah, returning to the welcoming arms of his Savior.

LeRoy made his entrance to this life Oct. 25, 1912, in Montpelier, Idaho, the fifth child and second son of Raynald and Frieda Messerli Hirschi. He moved to Geneva, Idaho, at the age of six where he lived until his marriage. In 1929 he completed a carpenter training course at Utah Agriculture College.

He married Naomi Keetch in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 26, 1935. They made their home in St. Charles, Idaho, where they raised their seven children. He and Naomi served in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg LDS Mission in 1974. He was a registered Scouter for more than 50 years, earning his Eagle, and he was awarded the Silver Beaver.

In 1978, he and his beloved Naomi were in a car accident in Logan Canyon that took her life. After a lonely 2½ years of mourning his sweetheart, he married Charlene Barrentine Cook in the Logan LDS Temple on March 26, 1981, and helped raise seven more children. He often bragged that he then had "14 children-just like Mom and Dad."

He is survived by his wife Charlene, 12 living children: DeVon (Udell) Hirschi, Kent, WA; LaNae (Neil) Morgan, Logan, UT; Loran (Marcile) Hirschi Logan, UT; Doreen (Dee) Quinton, Kamloops, B.C.; Colleen (Grant) Widmer, St. Charles, ID; Donna (Von) Stocking, N. Salt Lake City, UT; Charles (SueAnn) Cook, Layton, UT; Robert (Bonnie) Cook, Hyrum, UT; Mike (Karen) Cook, Payson, UT; Chad Cook, Everett, WA; Howard (Jessica) Cook, Richmond, UT; Steven (Leslie) Cook, Ray, ND; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all 13 of his siblings, wife Naomi, daughter Jean, son Tim Cook, grandson Stephen Morgan and great-grandson Zachary Wellard.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. There was a viewing at Nyman Funeral Home, 585 W. 100 North, Providence, UT, on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services was Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the LDS chapel located at 125 W. 600 North, Logan, UT, at 11 a.m. with a viewing prior, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the St. Charles cemetery at 4 p.m.

The family is grateful to CNS Hospice for the loving care they have given for the past 17 months. Special thanks to nurse Amanda and CNA Mike who were at our beck and call 24/7. Much gratitude to the Logan 17th Ward bishopric and Relief Society for helping with arrangements and luncheon.
