RANDOLPH, Utah. March
11, 2020. On May 16, said Jared Eborn
of Extra Mile Racing, there will be the Bear Lake Marathon Bike Race around the
lake. The bike race will be from Blue Water Beach
south to Round Valley to Laketown then around the lake 50 miles for the short
race. By adding the Round Valley loop the race will be 75 miles.
The local cycling association has changed the race so there
will be only 8 heats. Organizers try to keep the racers two abreast so that all
the roads do not need closure. Extra
Mile Racing has insurance so the county is not liable.
Most racers spend at least one night in Rich County which
brings revenue to the county.
Commissioner Bill Cox said there needs to be a warning to
the residents at least a week before.
“We would like to be good neighbors,” Eborn said. They are trying to avoid peak tourist and
agricultural times.
Cox said that the race needs to have good signage so that
everyone knows that the race is happening. The County won’t give permits for use of the area after June 1,
or in the fall when the cattle are coming in.
