Cox questions runaway truck ramp placement

RANDOLPH, Utah.  March 11, 2020. Randall Knight, Chair, Garden City Fire District, said that another truck went through the Raspberry Square intersection and asked what the county could do.   He said that these truckers have not been trained for mountain roads and grades. Commissioner Bill Cox said that part of the CDL test is about going down grades, but that not all of the new truckers have been tested.  It is a federal license not controlled by the county.

Cox also said that the place that the state is planning the runaway lane is not in the right place because at that site it looks like the road is going to straighten out and the trucker might  make the decision that he can make it since going up a runaway lane often wrecks a truck.

Knight also asked county commissioners  to approve the appointment of Barbara Turnbow to the Fire Board.

He also said that the new extension on their building is now dried  in.  Construction has been slowed because of the shortage of trade workers.  Volunteer firemen have been working on it as they can to do a lot of the finish work.

The District bought a used ladder truck .  Knight said that the growth of Garden  City is concerning him and said that they need to replace five or six of the existing trucks.  He is going to try to find funding.
