Paul William Lamborn was born on October 4, 1919 to William and Effie Lamborn in Laketown, Utah.He was one of four brothers, Grant, Ellis and Howard. Paul passed away on November 24, 2017 in Antioch, California.
Paul grew up on his parents' farm in Laketown, where they raised pigs, dairy cows and had a large garden. Paul graduated from high school and went to Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he received his Bachelor's degree. He enlisted in the US Navy, became an officer and served in World War II in the pacific. Paul was very proud of his service and continued in the reserves. He married Elizabeth during the war in New Jersey. His first daughter Jane was born during the war. Paul and Elizabeth moved to California after the war and raised their four children, Jane, Paul, Judy and Patsy there. Paul brought the family to Laketown every summer where he helped with haying and visited the relatives.
He worked for the University of California Agricultural Extension for 30 years until he retired at the age of 60. He then started his own farm, an almond and peach orchard in Oakley, California. Paul and his second wife LaRuth sold the fruits and nuts at their stand and Paul helped to found Farmer's Markets as well. LaRuth and her two children Patricia and Danny enjoyed the orchard, especially Danny, his wife Diane, and children, Julie and Jeremy. After LaRuth passed away, Paul continued working the orchard until housing developments took over the area and his orchard was seized through eminent domain to build a freeway bypass and water treatment plant. He invested, along with his son Paul Jr., in a ranch near Laketown and enjoyed that connection to the Laketown community.
Now in his eighties, Paul had found happiness and married Maureen and the two of the set out to enjoy life traveling to Bear Lake in the summers and Tucson, Arizona in the winter. Maureen and her three children, Debbie, Marty and Sandy, along with Paul and his children enjoyed two family cruises, one to Alaska and another to Mexico. Together with their partners and children., the whole family had fun exploring the cruise ship, water rafting, snorkeling and other adventures.
Paul wanted to leave a family legacy and founded the William and Effie Lamborn Family Sholarship Fund. He organized Lamborn family reunions and auctions and together with all the cousins the fund grew so that scholarships could be awared yearly to both family members and Laketown high school students. Paul also organize community projects and was very proud of the "Welcome To Laketown" sign and the Laketown Cemetery Arch built and funded by the Lamborn Family Fund.
Paul also enjoyed entering in the Pioneer Day Parade, enlisting his daughters and sons-in-law, Bill and Jim in decorating his Cadillac and truck beds. His favorite was the entry where he declared himself the Lamborn Family Patriarch, a title he thoroughly enjoyed. Paul was joined on the float by his grandson, Will, and great granddaughter Avy.
Paul Passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Antioch, California. On Thanksgiving he was joined by his grandchildren. He smiled at them and waved. He had announced he would die the day after Thanksgiving and that is exactly what he did. Paul was a man of his word. He believed in hard work, valuing family and giving back to the community.
A memorial service was held on December 5, 2017 in Laketown. He was buried in the Laketown, Cemetery.
