Letter to the Editor:
The Garden City Fire District held their Christmas Party
last night and had an extremely well-supported event. Twenty-two firemen and four members from the
Sheriff’s department along with their partners were in attendance.
It was great to see all of the volunteer firemen in one
sitting and the camaraderie they have with each other. I think this is the most firemen the district
has had on call in the last 5 years that I have been on the board. The citizens can sleep at night and go about
their business during the day because these men and women have taken the time
to learn and perform safe and effective firefighting techniques they have been
taught at the various training sessions for structures, wild land, hazardous
material and water rescue incidents. So
far this year there hasn’t been a drowning on the lake, the first I can
remember in the 10 years I have lived here.
There was one near death recovery by the team to get this record.
The Volunteer Firemen under the direction and leadership of
Fire Chief Mike Wahlberg are the first responders to the many calls for
help. Many of them spend several hours
away from their jobs with loss of income serving our needs. I would like to express my sincere
appreciation to all the Volunteer Firemen that work so tirelessly protecting
our area. If you know any of our
volunteer fighters, EMTs and law enforcement people please take the time to
personally thank them.
