Hi all! I wanted to invite those in Rich county and interested
in Monarch butterflies to join our Monarchs of Northern Utah Facebook group.
Right now, there is a contest for first monarch siting by county. Rich County
hasn’t had a sighting yet that I know of. Cache County just had its first
siting on Saturday. You need a photo and a GPS location, you could win $50!

Why is Bear Lake a different color this spring?
This is a natural occurrence that happens on years where a tremendous amount of water is
diverted into the lake from the Bear River during the spring. Since this water comes from
upland sources and is warmer than the existing lake water it floats on the surface. Because it
has more nutrients than the water in Bear Lake, phytoplankton and zooplankton bloom and
turn the water greenish. It happened before in 2011 when the lake came up nine feet. Bear
Lake is a carbonate lake and in time will absorb these nutrients and they will precipitate out and
the lakes natural blue out will return to its normal color. It is a natural occurrence and it just
illustrates that varied dynamics on this unique body of water.

The "Pens for Progress Donor Breakfast" aims to raise funds for the Rich County Jr. Livestock Program to acquire new and improved livestock pens. These pens are crucial for providing a safe and comfortable environment for the young participants and their animals during livestock shows, exhibitions, and educational activities. All donations will be matched up to $10,000 by an anonymous donor.
