- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups milk chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the flour and salt, mixing until a crumbly dough forms.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan, using your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup to create an even layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
- While the crust is baking, prepare the caramel layer. In a medium saucepan, heat the sweetened condensed milk over medium heat until thick and caramelized, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
- Pour the caramel layer over the baked crust, using a spatula to spread it out into an even layer. Let the bars cool completely at room temperature.
- Once the bars have cooled, melt the chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth and melted.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, using a spatula to spread it out evenly. Chill the bars in the fridge until the chocolate has set, about 30 minutes.
- Once the chocolate has set, lift the bars out of the pan using the edges of the parchment paper. Cut the bars into desired size and shape using a sharp knife, and serve.
