GARDEN CITY, Utah. May 2, 2018. The Planning Commission opened the public meeting for input concerning an ordinance dealing with updating building permits and certificates of occupancy requirements.
The comments included short-term rental issues. It was noted that five people per car is being used to determine the number of parking stalls required for each short-term rental. However, the majority of those present felt that was too many people per car. It was suggested that three people per car would be more accurate and would help tremendously in determining parking needs.
The idea of having individuals with boats, side-by-sides, four wheelers, bicycles, and so forth could perhaps park these extra items at another location such as the parking area in Hodges Canyon.
There is a field along Third West where several boats are stored. It was noted that these boats did not add to the area, and it was suggested that perhaps a more appropriate location could be found.
It was also noted that the advertisements of short-term rentals many times indicate that more people can inhabit certain homes than the number of people reported by the owners in obtaining a short-term rental license. The two numbers should be the same.
The Planning Commission also determined that there should be no parking on the streets. If cars are parking along the roadways, they will be ticketed and fined.
