Good Stuff!

Rich Middle School Students

By John Brown

A huge shout out goes to the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at the Rich Middle School!

The numbers are in.

Our thirty-four eight graders read 686 books this year for language arts.

That’s 43,929,528 words.

Boom.

But wait. Not to be outdone, our thirty-five seventh graders read 769 books this year for language arts.

A total of 45,080,308 words.

Together that’s 1,455 books. 89,009,836 words.

89 million words.

Add to that another 477 books read by our 34 sixth graders. Over 20 million more words.

That puts us at 1,932 books and almost 110 million words!

That’s crazy. Awesome. Prodigious.

With their teacher’s help, each of the kids set reading goals suited to their reading ability, then they selected the books that looked interesting to them and read.

It was their choice. They could read what they liked. And read they did.  Not only does reading help the students excel in so many other activities, it’s just plain interesting and fun.

Bravo to the students, the teachers, the librarian, and the administrators at the middle school. And bravo to the parents for supporting your children in such a worthwhile and enjoyable endeavor. A total team effort.

Well done.
