GARDEN CITY, Utah.  November 3, 2019.  At about 4 a.m Sunday morning Bailey Miles awoke to smoke pouring from his vents.  After he investigated, he realized there was a fire in the attic space of his home.  He called the Garden City Fire Department about 4:30 a.m. which arrived at 4:44 a.m. according to Chief Mike Wahlberg.  Three engine trucks from Garden City responded to the fire and two from Laketown.  Wahlberg believes the fire was a chimney fire.

Miles, whose wife is awaiting a kidney transplant, said that they had just finished putting in new windows and insulation to make the home warmer.  He is living in the adjacent shed and his wife is with family in Logan.

The home is completely destroyed but adjacent buildings and homes were not damaged. And thankfully no serious injuries.

Chief Wahlberg said. "This is a good time to remind people to clean their chimneys. This started as a chimney fire that breached the chimney liner inside the attic space and then spread into a very difficult area to extinguish. This is preventable most times. The fire department has chimney sweeping tools that citizens can come borrow...free of charge."
