ROBERT DOUGLAS SPENCE OBITUARY

Robert Douglas Spence passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, surrounded by the women he loved most, his six daughters. He was born December 6, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents were Paul and Afton Spence of Garden City, Utah, where Doug was raised. He married his high school sweetheart, Merle Thomas, on Christmas Eve of 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan temple.
Doug was an avid hunter in his younger years, and his favorite place to be was in the mountains surrounding the Bear Lake area. He worked for the Utah State Highway Department and pushed snow through Logan Canyon for thirty years, many times through terrible blizzards. He loved the outdoors, reading, watching sports, French fries and ice cream.
His greatest accomplishment in life was his family.
Doug is survived by his six daughters: JoAnn Andersen, Mickie (Craig) Layton, Barbara (Terry) Rich, Colleen (Thayne) Braegger, Vickey (Doug) Sink, Karen Spence; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren; half-brother Jerry Glenn (Linda), and half-sister, Betty Cady. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Kay Spence, and wife, Merle Thomas Spence.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 10 at noon, at the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints in Garden City. Friends may visit with family at the church from 11:00 a.m. to noon prior to services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.allenmortuaries.com.
