Garden City Fire District Minutes Nov. 17

Reporter: Randall Knight

The meeting started on time with all board members present: Randall Knight, Rich Scheaffer, Jayne Davis, Barbara Turnbow, Michael Lasswell

Others in Attendance were Tiffany Wahlberg, Chief Mike Wahlberg, Bryce Nielsen, Samantha Coontz, Rylee Wahlberg. Burke Christensen was a board applicant and not present due to conflicts.  Bryce and Samantha were applicants for the board opening.   The applicants introduced themselves and given an opportunity to speak and left the meeting following their comments.

The board voted to accept Samantha Coontz as Jayne’s replacement until 2029.   Two board positions expiring this year are Randall and Michael.  They both said they will continue for another term of 4 years.

Randall presented a request to the TRT committee for  help purchase a second brush truck.  The committee approved the request, so it will move forward to the TRT board for approval.

Randall is trying to put dirt in place to create a dam to keep other properties from draining onto the fire district property located on Sweetwater Parkway.  The UDOT culvert under Hwy 30 appears to be plugged for the drainage ditch in front of the property because it has standing water.  So he has notified UDOT so they will send someone out.

Christmas Party Plans for December 13th were discussed.

The board reviewed the proposed draft budget for 2026 and made a few adjustments.  The budget will be presented in the December public hearing.  The New brush truck purchased in April should finally be delivered in 2 weeks.

The Call outs were: 3 fire alarms, 1 CO, 2 propane leaks, 1 Search and Rescue assistance, 1 vehicle fire, 9 medical assists, 134 short-term inspections, 30 business inspections, 2 fire pit inspections
