Congratulations to Julie Dotson Nelson-Entreprenuer

Keeping it Crunchy Montpelier local to hold launch party on May 9 for new “Cereal Saver” product By Stephanie Bachman-West Correspondent A Montpelier local has whipped up a new invention designed to offer cereal consumers a new way to enjoy their morning bowl of Captain Crunch. Julie Nelson, who kicked off her marketing and advertising firm Creative Connections last year, is using her promotional skills to launch her own physical product, the Cereal Saver, come this spring. As its name implies, the Cereal Saver is a bowl insert that elevates the cereal from the milk to prevent it from getting soggy. The insert resembles a kitchen strainer and flexes downward when you press on it with your spoon, Nelson explained, allowing you to saturate your cereal with milk to create the desired consistency. “It was interesting because I was talking to people about it…to survey them about their cereal habits... and I come to find out that there’s a lot of texture-sensitive people, See especially kids, (who) can’t eat certain things because of the texture,” Nelson said. In addition to the Cereal Saver addressing texture-sensitive issues and helping prevent waste from soggy cereal getting tossed out, Nelson also noted that it helps herself with mindful eating and being aware of just how much cereal she’s consuming. “I’ve noticed that it helps with portion control,” she said. “It’s kind of like mindful eating. (It helps me) slow down and be present, which I find harder and harder to do these days because everybody’s in a rush.” Made of food-grade durometer santoprene, the insert is dishwasher safe and fits most standard cereal bowls, making it an accessible and universal tool for everyday kitchens. Nelson is pleased to announce that the Cereal Saver was made and manufactured in Bear Lake, and that it will be sold at local boutique shops and vendor shows through its website. It will also be available on the website Faire Wholesale for boutique owners to add to their shops. On May 9 she’s holding a launch party for the Cereal Saver at the Oregon Trail Center at 320 N 4th St. from 4 PM to 6 PM where individuals can purchase the insert, try it out at a cereal bar, and take photos at a red-carpet photo booth. A percentage of the proceeds raised at the party will be donated to the Bear Lake Senior Center. “I think it’ll be fun to have a little countdown and introduce it to get the community involved with it,” she said. “It’s amazing to me, especially in these rural areas, how people have all these at-home businesses but you don’t get to see a lot of it unless there are vendor shows. So I want to crack it open and say ‘look at some of the stuff that the people in our community are doing.’” She also plans to hold a “Crunch Club” where the first couple hundred buyers can become founding members and receive goodies such as stickers and get behind the idea of helping a new product take off. Coming from a background of marketing, Nelson explained that the process of pulling together a product and promoting it has been a rewarding journey, especially since she’s been able to apply all 4/15/26, 5:23 PM D: The Bear Laker about:blank 1/2 Copyright (c) 2026 Montpelier News Examiner, Edition 4/15/2026 Powered by TECNAVIA Copyright (c) 2026 Montpelier News Examiner, Edition 4/15/2026 she’s learned and give the Cereal Saver a good promotional push. “It makes (me) feel good about some of the training I’ve had leading up to this that’s kind of made it possible,” she said. “I’ve got a degree in communications, but I also was the marketing manager at the hospital for 12 years and worked and owned my own magazine publishing company and did sales and the distribution. So there’s just like all these little things that kind of lead you, but this is the first time bringing a product to market that’s my own. It’s been such a fun journey to take all those things and that mixed bag and turn it into something really cool.” To learn more about the Cereal Saver and the launch party, check out its website at www.cerealsaver. com or its Instagram page @cerealsaver.
