RANDOLPH,
Utah. August 2, 2017. Melissa Hislop, and Tami Leonhart, Bear Lake Valley Convention
and Tourist Bureau, reported to County Commissioners the names of three new members of the Tourism Board which decides how several hundred thousands of dollars are spent on tourism events, publicity and infrastructure. This funding comes from taxes generated by local restaurants, tourist events and room taxes.
Earlier in the summer Mayor John Spuhler, Garden City, had noted that the board which meets once a year needed to have some "new blood". He also said that while Garden City generated 90% of the tax it only received 7% of the revenue.
The commissioners had instructed Hislop to bring a list of 3 names to the Commission. Nate Smoot, Eric Wamsley, Erin Tingey, are the new members; Ray
Elliot and Curtis Moldenhour will stay on to provide continuity.
Also a new letter has been written to describe how grants are
given to make the process and criteria more clear. The letter will be sent out earlier so that there is
more time to prepare the applications.
