RANDOLPH, Utah. July 1, 2020. Mitch
Poulsen, Bear Lake Regional Commission, said that the bike path
extension had been submitted to the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation for a
$65,000 grant. That grant application
caught the attention of a legislator who wants to stimulate the economy. The legislature wants to have it ready and
finished to the Laketown Rest Area by next year. Poulsen asked for $10,000 for design work, so
that it will be shovel ready when funding becomes available
Commissioner Bill Cox
said that the bike path is extending from the current end of the bike path past
Rendezvous Beach to Willis Road. He
suggested that they spend that money to do future planning past Willis
Road. UDOT is going to redesign the rest
area so they need to know where the
potential bike path will be.
"We need to have a plan in place before UDOT
an others do projects. There is a real
push to finish the path to Idaho. The
next phase from Rendezvous Beach to the rest area will be expensive and difficult." Cox said.
Eventually there will be a bike path around the lake.
