Bear Lake Watch SplashBack

A Little Rain.....But Only a Little!

September 23, 2025

This months Splashback is a little early as I am 'out of the office' for the next few weeks. In October I'll try to have a more detailed review of the water year...just to remind us how dry it's been. Anyway the past couple of days the Upper Bear Basin has had about a half inch of precipitation (graph on left). This has helped bump up the soil moisture (graph on right). This graph depicts an average of percent moisture at the 8" and 20" levels below the surface.

The graph below is the water level in Bear Lake. As noted last Splashback the drop seems to be leveling off. As the growing season is coming to an end, there is very little water being pumped out of the lake.

The new water year starts in 8 days. Hopefully we'll get a bit more water before October 1st. The forecast for the next 6-10 days is above normal temperature but likely above average precipitation. The October forecast is shown below.

As always I want to thank the folks at NCRS, CBRFC, RMP and all the others who help me compile the Splashback. See you next year....water year that is!
