Early Raspberry Days

 Paul Webb

Well, I can tell you. Max Hill, Paul Webb and Harry Bennion were sitting on the front porch of Big Sky Realty. Max Hill was lamenting on how recreation traffic dropped of dramatically after the 24th holiday. He proposed a solution by doing a celebration of the harvest of what was the largest draw in August, raspberries. He suggested Raspberry Days. It was his idea. He is the originator of the idea of the whole thing. I was the Mayor at the time and Harry Bennion was the chamber of Commerce president. We put our heads together and structured it as it started. We three and our wives and a dozen other local people jumped in to help. Max Hill passed away in December. Much more detail could be added to this post to flesh out the hours and hours and years of hard work in those early days, but for another time.

(This truly was the way it all started-Bess & Carmen and their husband and many others were helpers)

Max Hill was also instrumental in getting our own Bear Lake Valley Visitor's Bureau organized in 1986. Rich County had been part of Cache County Tourism, but the needs of each county were different.
