Rich County has been my home my entire life, and I have had the privilege of serving as Sheriff for a number of years.
A lot has changed during that time. Rich County has changed, law enforcement has changed, technology has changed, and the responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office have grown.
My approach has been to manage that change carefully. I believe in making improvements when they are needed, planning ahead, and giving our employees the training, equipment, and resources they need to do their jobs well.
At the same time, I have always believed that we have a responsibility to be careful with taxpayer dollars. I have never believed that progress has to mean unnecessary spending.
The Sheriff’s Office today looks very different from the one I started with. We have modernized vehicles and equipment, implemented body cameras and other technology, improved wages to help attract and retain quality employees, strengthened our emergency communications capabilities, and built strong working relationships with other law-enforcement and emergency-response agencies.
We have also worked hard to build services here at home. Rich County has an active Search and Rescue organization that can respond to the unique challenges of our county.
Our local 911 Center provides professional emergency communications right here in Rich County.
I completed the necessary training to serve as a medical examiner investigator so families no longer have to wait for someone to travel from another county when an unattended death occurs.
Some improvements have gone beyond the Sheriff’s Office. After seeing repeated serious and fatal accidents at Sage Creek Junction, I worked with the State to get that intersection changed.
I also worked through the Legislature to address an alcohol-law loophole that was affecting our young people.
None of these things happened overnight, and none of them happened because of one person. I have been fortunate to work with dedicated deputies, dispatchers, corrections staff, Search and Rescue members, EMTs, county officials, and partner agencies who care about Rich County and the people we serve.
As Sheriff, I have tried to be a careful steward of that progress—changing what needed to change, preserving what works, and always remembering who we work for.
Going forward, these are some of my priorities:
- Dignity & Respect: Treat every person with dignity, respect, and fairness in every interaction.
- Emergency 911 Services: Maintain Rich County’s local, Utah State-certified 911 Center with high-quality service, modern technology, and continued improvements to meet our emergency communication needs.
- School Safety: Support the Guardian Program while maintaining School Resource Officers in both Rich County schools, providing an additional layer of trained law-enforcement presence for students and staff.
- Proactive Law Enforcement: Continue paying attention to the small issues that affect our communities and address them early, before they have the opportunity to become bigger problems.
Rich County is my home. The people I serve are my friends, neighbors, and community. That has always mattered to me, and it will continue to guide the way I serve as Sheriff.
