10 Years of Snow Data!

After a day of steady rain around Bear Lake, it certainly feels like the season is changing. Colder temperatures are moving in, and winter no longer feels very far away. That naturally raises a couple of questions: How much snow should we expect this winter—and how often will enough fall to require snow removal?

Bear Lake Ten Season Snow and Winter Weather Report Snowfall moisture temperature snowpack and snowfall-day frequency from 2016 to 2026

Purpose:This report combines two views of ten completed Bear Lake winters; how severe each season was; and how often measurable snow fell.

NOAA valley observations and Garden City Summit snowpack data show wide variation in snowfall, moisture, temperature and snowfall-day frequency.

Why a ten-year view matters. One winter can distort the perceived cost of snow removal. Multi-year seasonal agreements spread ordinary variation across light and heavy winters, while a clearly disclosed extreme-winter adjustment protects service capacity when conditions move well beyond the expected range.

Ten years at a glance:  85.3 inches per season.

The range was 24.0 to 161.9 inches.

  30.5 measurable snowfall days.

An average of 18.8 days reached at least 2 inches.

 January was busiest. It averaged 7.3 measurable snow days, including 4.4 days with at least 2 inches.

 Wide year-to-year swings. 2022-23 recorded 50 measurable snow days; 2025-26 recorded 15.
