Austin
Groll and Alec Silva,
Rich
County Daniels Scholar Recipients
By Kathy Putnam
Character, leadership, and service! These
are the core values that define a Daniels Scholar. Knowing Austin Groll and Alec Silva like so
many of us do, I feel this is just a start of a list of their strong qualities.
The Daniels Scholarship Program distinguishes
itself by selecting young leaders of exceptional character with the desire
to give back to their communities.
Bill Daniels defined the specific criteria
and unique perspective used to select Daniels Scholars. In addition to overall
character, natural leaders with the
motivation to succeed and the potential to be engaged in the community.
From the thousands that apply, roughly 250
young people from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming are awarded
scholarships each year.
In 2013 Utah received 16 of the scholarships awarded. It is amazing that 2 of the 16 receipients from
Utah were 4-H members from Rich County. Congratulations
to Austin Groll and Alec Silva for the opportunity you have earned to be the
receipients of such an amazing, life changing scholarship.
The Daniels Scholarship is a four-year
scholarship that applies toward the expenses of attaining a bachelor’s
degree at any nonprofit, accredited college or university in the United States.
The Daniels Scholarship provides it’s
Scholars with resources, encouragement, and inspiration far beyond the
financial assistance to help them earn a college degree. Scholars are connected
to a wide range of like-minded peers, and mentors.
I would like to thank the families of Austin
Groll and Alec Silva for helping them set high expectations with emphasizes on personal
accountability. Austin Groll is son of Shawn and April Groll and Sherry
Groll. Alec is son of Dusty and Brandee
Mills. Both families are local Rich
County 4-H Leaders!
