Fat Tuesday - 6 weeks until Easter or if you are Polish then it is Paczki Day - Then many Christians celebrate Ash Wednesday

Cities around the world are set to celebrate Mardi Gras today, the final day before the Christian fasting and religious observance period of Lent begins. Mardi Gras is the culmination of Carnival season, which officially begins Jan. 6 of each year, the 12th day after Christmas.

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins).

Ash Wednesday is a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and falls on the first day of Lent. It is observed by Catholics in the Roman Rite, Lutherans, Moravians, Anglicans, Methodists, Nazarenes, as well as by some churches in the Reformed tradition.

What is paczki? It is like a beignet or heavy doughnut.

Cooking without egs-Homemade Twix candy bar recipie

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the flour and salt, mixing until a crumbly dough forms.
  2. Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan, using your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup to create an even layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  3. While the crust is baking, prepare the caramel layer. In a medium saucepan, heat the sweetened condensed milk over medium heat until thick and caramelized, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  4. Pour the caramel layer over the baked crust, using a spatula to spread it out into an even layer. Let the bars cool completely at room temperature.
  5. Once the bars have cooled, melt the chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth and melted.
  6. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, using a spatula to spread it out evenly. Chill the bars in the fridge until the chocolate has set, about 30 minutes.
  7. Once the chocolate has set, lift the bars out of the pan using the edges of the parchment paper. Cut the bars into desired size and shape using a sharp knife, and serve.

Obituary-Venessa Rachel Enns-Robinson

Venessa “Ness” Rachel Enns-Robinson passed away in her home in Randolph, Utah, on January 25, 2023. Venessa’s legacy lives on through her three children and her loving parents.

Venessa was born on January 14, 1985, in Layton, Utah, to her parents, David and Stephanie Enns. She was raised in Randolph, Utah, where she had many friends and was a confidant to many. Her friends and family extremely loved her much. She could make those around her smile and laugh. Venessa graduated from Rich High School in 2003. The first love of her life, Hayzen Robinson, was born in December 2005 and later followed by her beautiful and fierce girls; Madison Robinson, born May 2008, and Abigail Robinson, born June 2009.

Venessa was a jack of all trades. A mother by nature and an auntie that her nieces and nephews couldn’t resist. They all told her that “Aunt Ness is the Best.”

Venessa met the love of her life in high school and was reunited with him years later. Doug Weaver was Venessa’s rock. He stood by her side through many trials in life and helped her raise her children. They were life partners and soul mates. He preceded her in death in 2020.

Venessa is survived by her three children; Hayzen (17), Madison (14), and Abigail (13). Her five brothers also survive her; Brandon, Nicholas, Devyn, Kamryn, and Spencer Enns. As well as her four nephews and four nieces.

A celebration of life was held on February 6th in Randolph, UT.

Rich County Emergency Plans by Bryce Nielson

                Rich County Emergency Management

                            Advance Notification

Rich County is a safe place to live. We don’t have any railroads, chemical plants, refineries, airports, or large, urban, industrial areas.  Radical terrorists looking to disrupt locations with civil unrest are rare.  We do have other threats that come with living in a rural county which most of us are aware of.  These include but are not limited to:  Extreme weather events, microburst downpours, wildfire, flooding, windstorms (lakes), power disruptions, hazardous materials roadways and earthquakes.

As the Rich County Emergency Manager, it is my responsibility to prepare for all types of emergencies through training and planning.  It is also necessary to assist in coordination with first responders and other city, county, State and Federal governments.  I am the guy that sets up Emergency Operation Centers to support Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS and others who respond to the emergency

Accurate communication is one of the most difficult things to accomplish during an emergency.  Rich County, with other counties in northern Utah, utilizes an advance notification system called CodeRed.  This nationwide program allows a city or county the ability to push information to the public when an incident exists.  It is a volunteer program, but to be on the notification list, citizens need to register.  It is a simple thing to do and may save your life.  Register family and friends at https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/E6BA2FE3512F .  There is also a free app at:  https://www.onsolve.com/solutions/products/codered/mobile-alert-app/codered-mobile-apps-download/ which will notify you anywhere your cell phone is in the United States.  Please take the time to sign up.
